"Sustained success in business - regardless
of sector - increasingly depends on the ability to innovate
...the ability to innovate, in turn, depends on the availability
and exploitation of creative skills. In a real enterprise
culture, these needs create a virtuous circle: for sustained
innovation and growth, companies need to be able to draw on
the talents of a flourishing creative community; for innovation
to flourish, the creative community needs to be responding
to the demands of dynamic and ambitious businesses".
Not my words, but those of Sir George Cox
in his Review of Creativity in Business, who, like us recognises
the role creativity and innovation has in the country's long
term economic success. The creative disciplines in UK higher
education are second to none in nurturing this creativity
and capacity for innovation in our students. For sustained
success in business to become a reality, however, we also
need to support creative individuals to be enterprising and
entrepreneurial; to develop their business skills and awareness
not simply to respond to the needs of business but to create
and drive business.
I am confident that Insight Out Learning,
tailored to the needs of creative people, will prove to be
an invaluable tool in introducing business awareness and enterprise
thinking into the art and design curriculum.
