The Design Council's responsibility is to improve prosperity and welfare in the UK by promoting the value of design in a modern economy. The Design Council provides information and support for designers - including case studies and on line resources. The emphasis of the council is to develop industry, manufacturers and education sectors awareness of the economic value of design.

With a responsibility to promote the contemporary crafts in the UK, the Crafts Council serves crafts practitioners and the public. There are a number of professional development events, initiatives and opportunities run by the Crafts Council, including travel grants for research trips abroad, and bursaries to help exhibit at shows. The Crafts Council holds a National Register of Makers, which contains contact information for more than 4,000 UK Craftspeople.

Provide various arts funding schemes and information/advice via the 'Help Desk'. Produce an information directory listing advice briefings/publications (many are free) on areas including: business and funding sources, market research, planning & policy, crafts, visual arts, combined arts, literature, dance, drama, music. D&AD is an educational charity working on behalf of the international design and advertising communities, with a remit to set industry standards, educate the next generation and promote the significance of good design and advertising in the business domain. The BEDG promotes the commercial export potential of contemporary British Design, design services and education in the UK's key export markets of Germany, Continental Europe and North America, through commercial and cultural activities. The Trust seeks out the best designers working in the UK to become members of Design Nation, a membership organisation of 130 designers. The trust promotes Design Nation's work and services nationally and in the international arena. If you are a member, your work will be showcased on the website and catalogue. If not, both can be used as an essential resource as it has excellent guides to starting up in business and is available to download from the website, together with information on awards, grants and exhibition space. The CSD awards chartered status to designers, and were founded to champion design practice and regulate the professional conduct in the industry. The CSD runs training courses in a wide range of subjects, from pitching skills to time management. It also offers advice on intellectual property rights and copyright issues. The Cultural Enterprise Office (CEO) provides information, advice surgeries and training in business skills for people planning to work, or are already working, in cultural and creative industries.
